Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to search for waterfront homes, read our guides, use our tools and contact listing agents on Waterfront Homes, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, voice control or other assistive technology.
Our target
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 covers things like text alternatives, keyboard access, color contrast, focus visibility and consistent navigation.
This is a goal we work toward continuously. We have not completed a formal third-party audit, and we do not claim full conformance.
What we do
- Build pages with semantic HTML so headings, lists, tables, forms and buttons are announced correctly.
- Support keyboard navigation for search, filters, saved homes, tools and contact forms.
- Use visible focus indicators and sufficient color contrast.
- Show waterfront details, such as the type of water and how a property meets the water, as text rather than only as icons or colors.
- Label form fields and show clear error messages.
- Respect browser text resizing and zoom.
- Test with automated tools and manual checks during development.
Known limitations
- Maps. Interactive maps are difficult to make fully accessible. Every map on the site has a list view that shows the same listings with their details, so you can search and browse without using the map.
- Listing photos. Photos come from listing brokerages through MyStateMLS. Many photos, including aerial and shoreline photos, do not include descriptive text from the source. We show the listing's key details (price, beds, baths, size, waterfront details and description) in text alongside photos.
- Virtual tours. Some listings link to virtual tours hosted by third parties. We do not control the accessibility of those tools. If you cannot use a tour, the listing agent can often provide more information or arrange a showing.
- Listing descriptions. Descriptions are written by listing brokerages and may use abbreviations. We display them as received.
Feedback
If you run into a barrier on Waterfront Homes, or need information in a different format, please tell us through our contact page. Let us know the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you use, if you are comfortable sharing that. We read every message and will use it to improve the site.
